Pima Community College: Northwest CampusTucson, ArizonaClient: Pima Community College
Positioned on a desert ledge between the Canada Del Oro Wash and native desert hillsides, Pima Community College’s newest campus in northwest Tucson will emerge and become a center for educational and social gatherings. Design Workshop’s civic space design will enhance and elevate an individual’s experience with the institution, the site, and the community. As a fully integrated campus is the product of synthesized building design, urban design, and the landscape, the Northwest Campus will promote intergration through the blended relationship of the classroom space and the native desert. Additionally, a primary design principle at the Northwest Campus is promoting the variety of experiences, including outdoor learning, social gathering, individual reflection, and chance encouters. Situated on 60-acres and estimated to cost $18 million at full build-out, the Northwest Campus is designed to be implemented in a phased strategy. Once completed, the campus will contain memorable spaces, appropriately characterized architecture, and a landscape designed specifically for this Sonoran Desert site.
