Williams Village at The University of ColoradoBoulder, Colorado
Client: University of Colorado at BoulderIn many ways, the University of Colorado is a village within the village of Boulder. It is affected by many of the same pressures attributed to growth - housing, parking, commuting and air quality. Each year, affordable housing becomes more difficult to obtain in the City of Boulder, forcing students, faculty and staff to move out of the community and commute to the campus. Design Workshop’s mission was to create a master plan for a new mixed-use village for the University on the 50-acre Williams Village Site. This new academic village provides a variety of uses for over 2,000 new residents made up of students, faculty and staff. Additional housing and support facilities will alleviate upward rent pressures for students, slow the growth of commuters into Boulder, reduce increasing demand for on-campus parking and improve air quality. Design Workshop prepared a Master Site Development Plan and a set of Design Guidelines for the village. These documents provide a framework for development and guide the scale and character of architecture and open space design.
