Golf Learning Center at Blue Lake Park Fairview, OregonClient: METRO Regional Parks and GreenspacesMETRO Regional Parks and Greenspaces contracted Design Workshop Golf in the summer of 2006 to develop a series of conceptual golf routing plans for a new Golf Learning Center at Blue Lake Park in Fairview, Oregon. Only 15 minutes outside of downtown Portland, the park draws a diverse crowd of people from the region, particularly during national holidays and celebrations. Unfortunately, the park’s annual budget operates on a net annual loss of approximately $300,000. METRO performed in-depth market analysis study that proposed a golf course to help remedy the park’s budget concerns. Based on various council member meetings, the series of conceptual plans culminated in a preferred option. Design Workshop Golf proposed an innovative routing plan that allows for golf to be played in a multitude of options on a single layout. The concept addresses the site’s various environmental sensitivities though a comprehensive system of Best Management Practices, unique community interpretive opportunities, and enhancement of existing natural features. The result is a plan that will move forward into design and construction and grab the attention of golf and environmental enthusiasts on a local and national level because of its pioneering design for golf learning centers.
