Whistler Comprehensive Sustainability Plan

Client: Resort Municipality of Whistler  

As one of the highest-rated mountain resort communities in North America, the Resort Municipality of Whistler is continually finding ways to improve the quality of the visitor and resident experience. A recent innovation involved replacing their existing Comprehensive Development Plan with a Comprehensive Sustainability Plan. This update will provide a vision to guide the Municipality toward a sustainable future. Design Workshop has been engaged to lead the first phase of work "to define the characteristics of successful destination resorts." Leading a multi-disciplinary team, topics to be addressed include: land use, environment, transportation, housing, utilities, finance, economics, social issues, quality of life, recreation, governance, provisions of goods and services, culture, guest experiences, economic diversity, vision, etc. Conclusions about these characteristics, combined with other work being completed to define sustainability in the context of Whistler, will combine to inform the community vision.
