Area Highlights

Tempe is an urban community located in the center of the Phoenix metropolitan region, bordered by Phoenix on the west, Scottsdale on the north, Mesa on the east, and Chandler on the south. Tempe's central location is enhanced by an extensive freeway network that provides access to and from these surrounding communities. Arizona State University, with a main campus of over 44,000 students, is located in Tempe and is the fourth largest university in the nation. Outside the university, there are many attractions and amenities. Combining historic buildings with modern architecture, the downtown Tempe area is a regional entertainment center with live music, restaurants, boutiques, cafes, theaters, and film houses. Annual spring and fall festivals of the arts draw tens of thousands to downtown Tempe. Rio Salado Town Lake and the Tempe Beach Park are within walking distance and add to the ambiance of the beautiful downtown area.
