| The active ingredient in any organization is its
people. Design Workshop believes that organizations progress only
through individuals who progress. Tapping the potential of people
requires a plan for and commitment to their continuous development.
Design Workshop expresses its belief in these propositions
by working to create a continuous learning organization. The concept
of a learning organization challenges a company to use knowledge
as a basis for its competitive strategy and to see learning as the
bedrock of its ability to thrive.
A learning organization sees itself as a living, changing
entity defined by what it knows and its potential to learn. In a
learning organization, the term “asset” is measured
by the organization’s storehouse of knowledge, not its inventory
of goods.
The purpose of a learning organization is to maximize
the potential of individuals and the firm in order to achieve ever-evolving
objectives. This is achieved through the institution of learning
opportunities and organizational processes that build learning into
every work activity.
Through learning we re-create ourselves. Through
learning we go to new places. We re-perceive the world and our relationship
to it. Through learning, we extend our capacity to create, to be
part of an on-going, self-design process. We acquire intellectual
capital with enormous trade value. Although certainly this process
affects the organization positively, the ultimate beneficiary of
continuous development is each individual.
