Design Workshop Wins ASLA Honor Award for Woody Creek Garden

SALT LAKE CITY, UT – The American Society of Landscape Architects has awarded its Residential Design Honor Award to Design Workshop for its design of the Woody Creek Garden in Pitkin County, Colorado.

The Honor Award recognizes the Woody Creek Garden as an exceptional outdoor residential space that integrates the natural topography and landscape around the site into the garden itself. Through the use of reflection pools, rough-hewn stone walls, and a functional green roof, Woody Creek Garden offers compelling aesthetics, residential function, and conservation of water and soil resources.

Design Workshop principal Richard Shaw, the project’s landscape architect, has created a garden setting that is sustainable within its landscape and a place of lasting enjoyment and value for the homeowner. Woody Creek Garden strengthens Design Workshop’s ongoing commitment to the creation of spaces with ecological, economic, communal, and artistic purpose.

Design Workshop is a practice of landscape architecture, land planning, urban design, and tourism planning. Design Workshop combines principles of smart growth, sustainable design, and environmentally-sound planning to reconcile economic needs with the preservation of scenic, cultural, and community values. Design Workshop’s pioneering efforts have been recognized with more than 125 awards from such organizations as the American Society of Landscape Architects, the American Planning Association, and the Urban Land Institute.
