Design Workshop 2007 Summer Internship presents charrette findings

ASHEVILLE, NC – On June 8, 16 top students selected for Design Workshop’s 2007 Summer Internship presented the results of their design effort, which focused on the revitalization of the Asheville waterfront along the French Broad and Swannanoa rivers. The presentation at Curve Studios detailed the most critical issues facing the riverfront through the use of master plans for large sections of the riverfront, illustrating ideas that may help the city develop strategies for increasing vehicular and pedestrian connectivity and encouraging a viable art community through a focus on the riverfront’s ecological health and economic vitality.

The presentation was the final showcase of an intensive 10-day design charrette effort for students in fields including landscape architecture, architecture, business, planning, and fine arts from universities across the country. The event audience included key riverfront development stakeholders, internship sponsors, and members of the greater Asheville community.

Design Workshop recognizes the exceptional efforts of the interns: Cameron Campbell, Curtis Walls, Eunjeng Lee, Ian Wick, Insil Lee, HaeIn Lee, Jinglan Wang, Kristi Mikkilsen, Nick Aceto, Sarah Peck, Scott Kameron, Seth Slifer, Shannon Scovell, Sophie Martin, Susan Corban and Wiriya Kitrailard. These students will continue their professional development during a 10-week paid internship at Design Workshop offices around the country.
