Design Workshop expands its Phoenix
office
and moves to larger quarters
Following growth in both commissions and staff
in recent months, the Phoenix office of Design Workshop, an
international award-winning landscape architecture, planning
and urban design firm, has moved into new and larger quarters
at the Hayden Ferry Lakeside office complex on Rio Salado Parkway
in Tempe. The firm’s Phoenix office, which opened in August
1986 with two staff members, has grown to a current staff of
13. The move from their previous South Mill Avenue location
and will give the office more space for client meetings, design
charrettes and staff.
“Design Workshop is involved in urban
design planning and implementation in cities throughout the
West,” says Kirby Hoyt, one of two principals in the Phoenix
office. “We look forward to further expanding our client
base here in Arizona.”
The Phoenix office has developed a talented urban
design, community planning and resort design team, which includes
the recent addition of principal John Suarez from the firm’s
Denver office. Tom Snyder leads the office as the operations
manager; Snyder coordinated the design and construction of the
new office space, as well as the move itself. The Phoenix office
is currently hiring designers.
Among its current projects are the Tempe Center
for the Arts, the dynamic mixed-use community of Main Street
Commons in Gilbert, Arizona, and the master plan for the new
community of Valle San Pedro in the state of Baja California,
the fastest-growing region in Mexico. The firm also created
a new master plan for the Festival Ranch near Buckeye, recently
began design on the Biltmore Fashion Park in Phoenix and created
the master plan for the Kierland Commons mixed-use retail district
in Scottsdale.
