We see the big picture.
We bring to every project an array of services that supports our designs.
Aesthetics and function thrive in our work because we first pay attention
to environmental, political and financial challenges, as well as the
will of the community and the issues of creating a sustainable economy.
In all our work – from brownfields to golf courses, from resorts
to the most complex urban design – we balance competing interests
with our knowledge, skills and experience to create projects that
contribute to the community’s long-term quality of life.
We practice “green” design.
Environmental concerns have always been center-stage for us. This
is not an optional component of our design but essential to each
project. In the course of our work, we have found innovative and
economically viable solutions to even the most serious environmental
challenges.
We cultivate passion.
We harbor a culture of high standards and we care deeply about what
we do. You can see it in our work, you will feel it in our client
meetings. We find deep meaning in our projects and we put our heart
into them. And we communicate this passion at all levels –
from the design partner who heads the team, to the landscape architects
we have schooled in client communication.
We speak plainly.
We like straight talk, but we don’t disdain true debate of
the deeper issues. We just don’t like flash and dazzle –
the kind of Archi-Speak that ends up confusing or intimidating people
instead of educating them and persuading them. The issues may not
be simple, but that’s all the more reason to make our dialog
as clear and direct as possible.
We are thorough.
Research and documentation are priorities on every project because
they give us a foundation on which we can build our next projects.
Our roots are in academia and our orientation as a firm has always
been imbued with the values of learning. Our firm has an impressive
number of advanced degrees from the top university programs in the
world and our professional development program (Design U) is one
of the most rigorous in the nation.
We encourage creativity.
We believe everybody has something to offer. That’s why, since
our early days, we’ve kept our firm a flat organization where
all employees have a chance to contribute, to take charge –
and to advance their careers.
We’re close by.
Throughout three decades of planning and design, our work has taken
us into a wealth of new territories. In 11 of those places,
we’ve
put down roots, including three in South America and one in Canada,
by way of a design alliance with LANDPLAN Associates – making
our style of boutique-firm attention available on a large scale.
