Plumas County General Plan UpdatePlumas County, CaliforniaDesign Workshop has been retained by Plumas County to manage the update of the Plumas County General Plan. The General Plan includes a comprehensive review and update of the seven California mandated elements; Land Use, Conservation, Transportation and Circulation, Noise, Housing, Public Health and Safety, and Recreation and Open Space. In addition, Design Workshop has been contracted to add three optional elements; Water, Agriculture/Forestry and Economics. Plumas County is in a unique geographic location in the Northern Sierra Nevada. The county contains all of the Feather River Watershed which supplies water to the majority of water users of the California Water Project. Plumas County’s forest make up the second largest contiguous forested land in California and 10% of the county’s land base is an active agricultural production. The inclusion of the optional elements will provide Plumas County the ability to better plan for and leverage its natural resources within the county with statewide planning efforts. Recent Californian legislation to address the reduction of greenhouse gases through sustainable planning practices will be addressed. Realistic policies and implementation measures will be identified creating a planning template for other rural counties. Critical to this planning effort is public engagement. Collaborative, inclusive, and transparent public involvement strategies include five Supervisor Districts, citizen working groups, individual stakeholder interviews, interactive public workshops and regular presentations at the Planning Commission and Board of Supervisor meetings. |
