Honor Award in Residential Design - ASLA Colorado Chapter

Views of Aspen and Sopris Mountains, as well as the enhancement of the existing water conditions are the guiding force behind this elegant residential design. Much consideration was also given to minimizing visual impacts of a busy road adjacent to the site. The residence includes a private entry courtyard that is accessed by driving under a breezeway, located behind the house. Much of the design is composed around the extensive water feature, detailed to look natural with the surrounding landscape, wrapping around the spa and flowing in a large pond at the base of the site. The landscape design was instrumental in softening the architecture of the house, creating a perfectly balanced relationship of the house to the site. The strong forms of the lawn and the pond are complimented by the scale of the structure with special attention on the large berm that screens the spa and terraces from the nearby road.
