The Village at Northstar Master Plan

Placer County, California

The Village at Northstar is the first step towards fulfilling the larger resort's overarching goal of providing a balanced resort environment. The Village houses a variety of dining and retail opportunities, including sidewalk cafes and fine dining, as well as a year-round ice rink that acts as the heart of activity and energy for the Village. Design Workshop was first retained by East West Partners to create a master plan what would transform the resort into a vibrant pedestrian-oriented center for year-round mountain activities. During that process, Design Workshop was responsible for all due diligence, land use planning, entitlements, ski area planning, public participation facilitation and team management

After the completion of the master plan phase, Design Workshop's role as landscape architect and land planner then included developing the Village from concept design through construction documentation and incorporating sustainability principles into the Village framework. Design Workshop also played a key role in guiding the entire Village to US Green Building Council LEED® Certification. This certification for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED®) positioned the Village at Northstar as the first resort village to reach this nationally-accepted benchmark for design and construction standards.

Together with additional skier services, spa, conference facilities and 200 new residential lodging units, the mountain resort offers amenities for everyone all year long.
