Design Workshop Wins Top Utah Design Awards

27 April 2010

Salt Lake City, UT – Design Workshop, an international landscape architecture, planning and strategic services firm recently received two awards from the Utah Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects (ASLA) for its project work at Pioneer Park and the new Utah Museum of Natural History.

The firm's Salt Lake City office was recognized for these awards at the Utah ASLA Annual Meeting and Trade Show, held in Park City on April 23. Each year, the Utah Chapter of ASLA recognizes firms for their outstanding work throughout the state, and entries are divided into seven categories and evaluated on criteria such as aesthetics, project success, and innovation.

The first award given to Design Workshop was in the Design Award category for developing a master plan for Pioneer Park to strengthen it as a community gathering place and urban open space. The plan facilitated involvement between local businesses, social services advocates, Daughters of the Utah Pioneers, Salt Lake City law enforcement and Salt Lake City Arts and Culture to create a new vision for the park. Once the master plan was successfully adopted by the Salt Lake City Community Council, Design Workshop led a collaborative team to develop construction documents for the first of three implementation phases.

The second award was in the Paper Landscape Architecture Award category for developing a schematic master plan for the Utah Museum of Natural History. Design Workshop collaborated with the building architects to refine the building's existing design and landscape elements, develop the museum's exterior interpretive program, and preserve and integrate the site's natural and manmade features. Design Workshop recently completed construction documents for the museum which is now under construction.
