Designing Cherry Creek West as a People-First Neighborhood

February 16, 2026

Cherry Creek West offers a new way to experience city living. Set on 13 acres at the western edge of the Cherry Creek neighborhood, it creates a welcoming front door for the district while reconnecting people to the creek, the trail, and each other.

From the beginning, Cherry Creek West was envisioned as a vibrant, mixed-use neighborhood shaped by daily life. It brings together exciting places to work, engaging civic experiences, and authentic retail and restaurants that embrace the nature of Cherry Creek. The goal is simple, create a place that people want to return to throughout the day, across seasons, and over time.

Public Realm First

Cherry Creek West is guided by a clear principle. The public realm comes first. Buildings come second. Cars come last. By placing people at the center of every decision, the neighborhood prioritizes walking, biking, and transit across the entire site. Parking is tucked below ground, freeing the surface for community gathering, outdoor dining, flexible event spaces, concerts, and a permanent home for the beloved farmers market. This approach allows the neighborhood to function as a car-free environment, centered on everyday life.

A Neighborhood of Connected Places

As people move through Cherry Creek West, the neighborhood is organized around a series of connected public spaces.

The Confluence marks the main arrival into Cherry Creek West. As people arrive on foot, paths come together near shops, restaurants, and building entrances, creating an active retail corridor with an engaging point of entry.

Market Square sits at the center of the site and serves as the neighborhood’s main gathering space. It supports local events, seasonal programming, commerce, and the weekly farmers market, with flexibility to shift from daily use to larger celebrations.

At the heart of the neighborhood, The Green acts as a shared front yard, with open space for events, casual gatherings, and everyday use throughout the week. This strategically programmed central space provides active moments in a new playground and areas of respite with a terraced sun deck for visitors to lounge.

Designed for the Long Term

Sustainability is embedded throughout the project, from clean energy and on-site stormwater management to native planting and durable materials. Together, these choices support long-term environmental performance while reinforcing a people-first approach to neighborhood design.

Cherry Creek West demonstrates what is possible when design begins with care for people, place, and community. More than a development, it is a neighborhood meant to be used, shared, and returned to time and time again.
