A Campus Designed to Remove Barriers to Recovery

March 24, 2026

Campus for Hope is a transitional housing campus designed to support people at a critical moment in their lives. Located in Las Vegas, Nevada, the 12-building campus is organized around a simple but powerful idea. Create a place where people in crisis can pause, feel safe, and begin to rebuild stability with dignity and choice.

The campus brings together housing, services, and outdoor space into a cohesive environment that supports both immediate needs and long-term recovery. It builds on the proven success of Haven for Hope in San Antonio, a nationally recognized campus developed under the same model, while responding directly to the unique context and needs of southern Nevada.

A Campus Built Around Care

Campus for Hope is designed as a complete, walkable environment that supports daily life. Four residential buildings serve different populations, including men, women, families, and coed residents. These are supported by a central dining hall, gymnasium, childcare, medical and behavioral health facilities, and a range of retail-like services such as a barbershop and clothing store. A non-sectarian chapel offers space for reflection and quiet.

Rather than separating services across the site, the campus brings them together in a way that feels clear and approachable. The goal is to reduce barriers, support routine, and make it easier for residents to focus on healing and progress.

Trauma-Informed Design as a Foundation

Trauma-informed design guides every aspect of the campus. The site is organized so it is easy to understand and simple to navigate, helping residents feel comfortable and confident as they move through daily routines.

Outdoor spaces are designed at multiple scales, offering places for social connection as well as quiet retreat. Residents can choose how and when to engage, supporting a sense of control and personal agency. Clear sightlines, defined edges, and thoughtfully scaled gathering spaces help foster safety, belonging, and calm.

A Main Street That Connects It All

At the heart of Campus for Hope is a central promenade that functions as a shared main street. This linear public space ties together housing, services, and outdoor areas, creating a strong community spine for the campus.

The promenade helps orient residents and visitors, reinforcing a clear and intuitive journey through the site. Along the way, it supports informal interaction, visibility, and connection, helping the campus feel active, human, and welcoming. More than a circulation route, it is the social heart of the community.

Collaboration and Commitment

Design Workshop is leading the site design for Campus for Hope in collaboration with The More Group and David Baker Architects. The project is funded through local private donors, with a matching contribution from the State of Nevada, reflecting a shared commitment to addressing homelessness with care and intention.

Construction of the first phase is anticipated to begin in November, bringing Campus for Hope from vision to reality. Designed to support stability and long-term recovery, the campus demonstrates how thoughtful design can support complex human needs, offering people the space, support, and structure to find their footing, begin healing, and take their next steps forward.
