Oklahoma City, Oklahoma
Design Workshop is proud to play a leading role in one of Oklahoma City’s most transformative civic projects—the new NBA Oklahoma City Thunder Arena. Partnering with MANICA, TVS, and the City of Oklahoma City, our team is designing the public realm surrounding the arena to create a welcoming gateway to downtown, a reimagined Thunder Alley for fans, and a vibrant green space that connects seamlessly to the Myriad Botanical Gardens.
The vision for the public realm celebrates community by seamlessly connecting to the City’s plentiful public realm while highlighting native and culturally significant landscapes of the region. Following the Thunder’s 2025 NBA championship season, the project honors the franchise’s history while looking ahead to an exciting new chapter for both the team and the city.
Inside, the arena’s 360-degree glass curtain wall will provide panoramic views of downtown from all concourses, reinforcing transparency and connection. Optimized sight lines and an intimate seating design will amplify the energy of game day, while the surrounding public spaces will invite year-round community use.
As Thunder Chairman Clay Bennett shared, the design “elevates the spirit of competition, celebrates community values, and strengthens OKC’s local and global identity for years to come.”
Scheduled to open in late summer 2028, the Oklahoma City Thunder Arena will be more than a home for basketball—it will be a bold investment in the city’s future, anchoring a dynamic district that merges sports, culture, and civic life.
