Snowbasin

Salt Lake City, Utah

Letting the attributes of the land dictate development areas

After hosting the 2002 Olympic Downhill and Super G races, the Snowbasin Resort was thrust into the spotlight and increased in popularity for winter recreation. The resort owners decided to create a vision for the 12,000-acres to transform Snowbasin into a year-round resort. Using extensive site analysis, programming and planning, Design Workshop created a conceptual master plan identifying the most developable areas. The plan resulted in seven clustered neighborhoods with residential and hotel accommodations, golf courses, and community centers that preserved 80% of open space as well as the natural amenities and beauty of the site. Design Workshop successfully rezoned the property in the two counties in which it is located.
