Story Mill Community Park

Bozeman, Montana

Interpretive signage and patinaed sculpture adds to the adventure

Design Workshop, in partnership with The Trust for Public Land, designed a 55-acre park in Bozeman, Montana. Located near the historic Story Mill and at the confluence of Bozeman Creek and the East Gallatin River, the park was planned with significant community input. Its wayfinding and interpretive signage, made from industrial materials like concrete and weathered steel, echo the site's railroad history. The signage also features the Sandhill Crane, a motif that brings the site’s ecological story to life. Wayfinding cues celebrate the Gallatin Valley's heritage and the neighboring Story Mill through carefully designed signage. It offers a vital connection to the area's rich history amidst growing urbanization and integrates story with nature.
