Southwestern Medical District Urban Streetscape Master Plan

Dallas, Texas

Creating a safer, healthier environment by uniting a major campus

In 2015, the Texas Trees Foundation issued a report revealing that the Southwestern Medical District, which houses three major Dallas hospitals, had a staggeringly low seven percent tree canopy coverage. In addition to the strained infrastructure and fragmented natural environment, the report was a call to action. Design Workshop was hired to redesign the campus uniting the three hospitals and creating an improved environment. The team’s design utilized wide streetscapes with an abundance of tree coverage, pedestrian and public transportation options creating a safer and healthier environment.
